Waiting on Calamity
Waiting on Wednesday was created by Breaking the Spine, and is a weekly book blogging feature about upcoming book releases.
I’m not choosing my favorite books of 2015 just yet, but right now I know that the Reckoners series is going to be in the running. I read Steelheart back in January and could not put it down. I loved it all. The concept of superpowers making people evil, the group of characters, David’s bad metaphors, all of the little details in the worldbuilding, the dystopian version of the united states, David’s bad metaphors…
I am also really thankful that I read this series because it re-introduced me to the wonderfulness that are Brandon Sanderson’s books! Me and all my friends read his middle grade series, Alcatraz Vs the Evil Librarians, back in middle school and I still love, love, LOVE those books. They are weird and hilarious and still have great worldbuilding. Because of Steelheart I started reading a lot of his other novels, plus Sanderson stopped at my local bookstore during the Firefight tour and I think it was one of the best book events I’ve ever been to ever.
The story arc in the first book was PERFECT and I loved the parallel between the last and first lines, but I think I liked Firefight even more because it built so well on everything in the first book, plus more characters and settings! And then the events of chapter 50 devastated me… (why is it always my favorite characters??!?) which is why I REALLY need the third and final book, Calamity.
I also made a mistake and read the excerpt for Calamity when it was released online. I need this book so much it’s painful. Can it be February 16th already?
